Ramatu Ahmed is a trusted and highly motivated community leader. She is known for her activism in fighting for social justice. Advocating for improving social and health services, on immigration issues, housing, schooling, education and making referrals to community members for services.
She devotes much attention on the youth population guiding them access to social services they might need. Her years of experience in community development prompted her to create the African Life Center in the Bronx, seeking to serve the African community.
A lady with an amazing ability of working comfortably with Africans from all backgrounds. Moreover, her rich cross-cultural approach has enabled her to constructively work with diverse communities of New York City. She holds a diploma from the Pan African Institute for Development in Cameroon and a certificate program in Entrepreneurship from Ahmadabad, India.
She was instrumental in the creation of the Medina clinic within Harlem hospital for the underserved Muslim/African community. Ramatu collaborated with the Department of Minority Health Resource Center in Washington, D.C., and organized the fourth U.S. “African Health Conference 2016” in New York City.
She has been a member of community board four in the Bronx. She is a proud CORO alumnus. Ramatu initiated the African Women’s Day celebration in the Bronx. Also a founding member of the Bronx Multi-faith Advisory Group partnering with the New York City Department of Health. She is the deputy secretary of the Council of African Imams and the Eid committee member that organizes the Eid festival at the end of the (Ramadan) in the Bronx. She is a recipient of Coro Leadership program and a fellow of the Immigrant Women Leaders Fellowship under the auspices of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant affairs and of the Interfaith Center of New York. She is a peace ambassador and believes the most important duty in life is to serve humanity.
